In this episode of Dad Jokes and Discernment, we take an unexpected turn from our original plan and talk about something real, frustrating, and deeply relatable—what happens when you’re convinced something in life is broken, but you’ve been looking in the wrong place the whole time.

It starts with a simple truck problem: a stubborn tail light issue that turned into months of frustration, assumptions, and wasted effort. But that everyday struggle becomes a powerful analogy for something deeper—how often we try to find Jesus in the wrong places.

We walk through Scripture and real life, looking at:

  •  Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb, searching for Jesus in grief and missing Him right in front of her
  •  The disciples returning to old habits, going back to fishing after everything had already changed
  •  Elijah expecting God in wind, earthquake, and fire—but finding Him in a still small voice

Each story reveals the same truth: God isn’t absent—we’re often just looking where we expect Him instead of where He actually is.

We also talk honestly about distraction, discouragement, misdirected faith, and how easy it is to assume silence means absence. And we bring it all back to real life: relationships, frustration, prayer, and the moments we walk away too soon because we’re convinced nothing is working.

This episode is for anyone who’s been tired, stuck, frustrated, or spiritually confused—and wondering if God has moved on.

Spoiler: He hasn’t. You might just be looking in the wrong place.
